PACAYA SAMIRIA – NATIONAL RESERVE

The PSNR is one of the largest natural areas protected by the state of Peru , with an extension of 2,080,000 hectares . Protects the entire basin of the Pacaya and Samiria River and is created with the aim of conserving the resources of flora and fauna as well as the scenic beauty, characteristics of the humid tropical forest.

YANAYACU – PUCATE RIVER BASIN – EL DORADO COCHA .

It is the third most important of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. It flows into the Rio Marañon , close to the village Santo Domingo, checkpoint entry area. The entire area of the basin is included in ecological floor of tropical rain forest . It is a river of sewage that runs approximately 180 km within which more than 12 lakes and 59 streams are located. Abundant wildlife such as birds, rodents, mammals, monkeys, Huacamayos , parrots , hawks , toucans, aquatic turtles ( taricayas and charapas) , variety of fish and alligators observed . Just as the largest freshwater fish in the world: the ” Paiche ” Arapaima gigas .

What to Expect

Itinerary

Day 1Full Day

05.00 AM Pick up from the hotel – It is recommended to arrive in Iquitos the day before.
Our land trip will last approximately 1.30 hours through the jungle, we will see various human and agricultural settlements.
Arrival at the city of NAUTA, short walk and breakfast.
The city of Nauta is located on the banks of the Marañón River.
We will board our boat and sail up the Marañón River for 1 hour until we arrive at the surveillance post called NAUTA CAÑO, in the PACAYA SAMIRIA National Reserve, before we will observe many gray and pink dolphins. After checking in we will take a walk through the jungle or a boat trip through the Nauta Caño tributary to see part of the flora and fauna of the reserve.
After lunch we will begin our recreational fishing for the carnivorous Piranhas and other species.
Timely return to the city of Nauta, to begin the return to the city of Iquitos.
Transfer to the airport or hotel.
