AYAHUASCA: Quechua word that means rope or vine of the dead (Aya – Dead; Huasca – Rope or Liana) BANESTERIOPSIS CAAPI is a plant native to the humid tropical forest, it is generally found climbing certain trees, reaching the top in the shape of vine and perch on the branches. From our ancestors to the present day, it is used by carrying out a long cooking that lasts more than 12 hours, with the mixture of another component called Chacruna, PSYCHOTRIA VIRIDIS, a small shrub that gives more power or strength to the Ayahuasca, which in the end is reduced to a small portion of essence.
The ritual begins with the meeting of the patients (called those who will take Ayahuasca), the Shaman or healer distributes the potion evenly with certain indescribable whistles known as Icaros, after ingestion comes dizziness with various visions and stomach upset. They evacuate through vomiting and defecation, this entire act is totally controlled by the Master through Icaros and sounds emitted by bundles of dry leaves known as Shacapa.
This ritual can last approximately 4 to 5 hours.
