Our Ceiba program gives you 4 days and 3 nights in the Peruvian Amazon. You stay at Cumaceba Lodge and enjoy jungle walks, night canoe rides, a full day on the Rio Negro and piranha fishing. With one extra day, you also visit Monkey Island, a butterfly farm and a riverside village, and you search for river dolphins twice. A local bilingual guide goes with you. Lodging, meals and transfers are included.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Iquitos Walk, Amazon River Trip and Night Canoe Ride

We meet you at the Iquitos airport or your hotel and start with a short walk in the old town. You will see rubber boom buildings such as the Iron House, Hotel Palace, Casa Cohen and Casa Fitzcarrald. Then we board the boat and sail the Itaya River and the Amazon River toward the lodge. At Cumaceba Lodge you get the cabin type you booked. Lunch is a local meal with dorado or catfish, heart of palm salad, rice, yuca and fried plantains. In the afternoon we walk through the forest to learn about local plants and animals, and you can feed the squirrel monkeys. Dinner is chicken with fried plantains and salad. After dinner, we take a canoe out on the lake to look for caimans. Night at the lodge.

Day 2

Hoatzin Bird, Rio Negro and Piranha Fishing

In the morning we paddle across the lake to watch birds, including the hoatzin, a colorful bird that locals call shansho. After breakfast we spend the day on the Rio Negro (Yanayacu means black water in Quechua), with lunch on board. We pass riverside homes, look for native birds and fish for piranhas with simple cane poles. You can taste fried piranha or other fish we catch. We also walk in the forest, and it is a great day for photos. We are back at the lodge at about 4 pm. If the sky is clear, you can watch the sunset. After dinner we take a night walk to look for tarantulas, frogs and insects. Night at the lodge.

Day 3

River Dolphins and Monkey Island

We begin with an early walk to see the sunrise and look for iguanas and birds on the river bank. After breakfast we search for gray and pink river dolphins. Then we sail to Monkey Island, where you can see more than 5 types of monkeys, such as howler (coto), woolly (choro), titi (tocon), spider (maquisapa) and pichico monkeys. Some of these species are at risk. We walk in the forest with our guide, then return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we look for river dolphins again and visit a riverside village. Night at the lodge.

Day 4

Butterfly Farm and Return to Iquitos

In the morning we take one more canoe ride on the lake to watch birds and look for the hoatzin. After breakfast we sail down the Amazon River to a butterfly farm, where an expert explains the full life cycle of butterflies. We return to the lodge for a farewell lunch. Later we head back to Iquitos and stop at Fundo Pedrito to see paiche (arapaima), caimans and the giant Victoria regia water lily. We then take you to your hotel by motokar or to the airport by car.
