SURROUNDED BY THE WONDERS OF THE AMAZON RAINFOREST
Cumaceba Amazon Lodge is a jungle lodge on the right bank of the Amazon River, about 35 km from Iquitos. Ricardo Pinedo Guerra founded it in 1995. You sleep in independent cabins with a private bathroom and a fan, and you walk, paddle and fish with local guides from the Amazon.
The lodge was built to fit the forest. Its buildings are screened against insects, and at night the lights run on solar power. For night walks and canoe rides, guides use battery flashlights.
A natural lagoon lies less than 100 meters from the lodge. On morning outings you can look for the hoatzin, a colorful bird that locals call shansho. At night you can paddle the lagoon to look for caimans.
The lodge sits in an area reserved since 1994. Four kinds of small monkeys live there, along with birds such as the hoatzin, herons and jacamars, and small caimans.
